John Ronnau earned his bachelor’s in political science from Kansas State University, a master’s in elementary and early childhood education from Antioch-New England, and Master of Social Work and Ph.D. in social welfare from the University of Kansas. His professinal experience includes teaching fourth grade, providing therapy to individuals, couples and groups, and treatment of child abuse and neglect.

Dr. Ronnau has held academic appointments as a faculty member and administrator for 25 years. His administrative roles have included Graduate Program Coordinator, Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Director of a Research Institute and Department Chair. He worked at the University of Texas at Brownsville for seven years as Dean of Graduate Studies and Sponsored Programs and Vice-President for Administration and Partnership Affairs. Since February 2012, Dr. Ronnau has served as Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services at the University of Texas-Pan American. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. His research interests include family strengths, case management, and cross-cultural competence. His hobbies include running and reading (especially history).
